🌟This is an account of a patient who after noti 🌟This is an account of a patient who after noting these symptoms decided to get her bloods done. 🌟The symptoms itself were diagnostic of diabetes without any further testing. 🌟But it is important to establish baseline values to enable further monitoring and also to detect complications eg. Kidney disease. 🌟This patient did in fact have secondary hypertriglyceridaemia as noted on bloods. 🌟Frequent infections are common in diabetes as is in any immune compromised state and should be aggressively treated to prevent uncontrollable sepsis. This includes skin infections, vaginal infections, urinary tract infections, ear and chest infections.😷🤧 🌟The take home message is that diagnosing this condition or any other is the first step towards managing and controlling it. Blood testing is a very important tool that we use Blood testing is a very important tool that we use to determine not just your overall health but also for specific conditions. 🩸🩸 Who should do blood testing should be determined by your medical doctor. The type of tests differs from patient to patient depending on their symptoms and individual profiles. A few common tests are outlined below: 🩸Full Blood Counts Specifically looks at Red Blood cells, White Bloods cells and Platelet counts. This is important when diagnosing conditions such as anaemia, infections and auto immune conditions. 🩸Urea & Electrolytes Looks at the kidney functioning and the electrolyte balance in the body. The values of these in relation to each other is important during acute and chronic kidney disease. 🩸Liver Function Tests As the name implies it gives us crucial information about all conditions including the liver. Common abnormalities may detect gallbladder problems, nutritional abnormalities, toxicities amongst various others. 🩸Thyroid Function Tests Tells us about the all important thyroid gland; abnormalities of which have wide ranging effects in all body systems. 🩸Lipogram This test gives us a breakdown of the circulating fat levels and also differentiates the good from the bad. This is important in determining cardiovascular risk profiles. These are just a few common tests that we routinely test for. We decide on what tests are needed after an individual consultation eg. It is sometimes associated with other autoimmune conditions like vitiligo, psoriasis, lupus etc. This has an unpredictable course and triggering factors may be difficult to identify and may include severe stress. Treatment may be with steroids or topical treatments. ✅️Tractional alopecia is commonly seen in women who wear tight braids or ponytails that cause mechanical stress to the hair follicles. Reducing this and stimulating hair follicles make it possible to regrow hair. ✅️ Post partum and post covid hair loss may fall under a known entity called telogen effluvium.
